In this case, stop and smell the purple clematis. This plant was a true rescue, main stem broken, looked ready to die, and yet after several years it thrives and I find it hard to pass by it and not marvel at the beauty it produces. Resilience is a wonderful trait to have and your characters should be resilient too. At the same time, do you ever have your characters just stop for a moment and take in the beauty around them? Or are things so hectic in your story line that there’s no space to add details for reflection? Add depth and bring that little extra to your story.
