When they are in bloom, lilacs can fill the area with such a wonderful aroma. Do writers remember to include smells when they are writing? I often skip over them and that’s not a good thing. Walking in my Japanese garden recently I got near the lilac bush that was bursting with flowers and the smell left me in a state of euphoria. That made me think about including the smells around a character in my novels. In “Koronus: Apprentice” the main character learns that smells can be really important, such as when he realizes that the spell he’s cast upon himself might make him invisible to sight but the dogs still smell him.
