Reasons to Write Books

It might seem obvious from the outside that writers want to become rich and famous.  And maybe early on, that was the driver for many writers.  But then you started writing and find that writing a complete novel, a real book, takes time, discipline and persistence.  If you aren’t a writer, you still might think writers are after the money.  But for writers, reality sets in and you have to face the fact that you’re unlikely to get rich.  You might tell yourself that you’re writing for the readers, hoping to spark a connection, reaction or response.  Maybe though, subconsciously we write to be remembered; to leave something behind that won’t disappear faster than snow in summer.  Books are proof that we were here.  And so, I continue to write and hope that novels I leave behind will amount to fond memories for someone.
